Profile of ICAJ President - Archibald Campbell Print E-mail

ImageMr. Archibald Campbell, M.Sc., FCA, was elected President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Jamaica (ICAJ) for the year 2009/2010, following the Institute’s 44th Annual General Meeting held on July 29, 2009, at the Knutsford Court Hotel. 

Mr. Campbell was first elected to the Council of the ICAJ in 2002, and has served as Chairman of the Taxation Committee and Treasurer from 2005 until 2007.  He has also served as a member of the ICAJ’s Accounting Standards, Continuing Professional Development (CPD), Current Affairs, Future of the Profession and Membership Committees.  He has been a member of the Institute since 1984. 

Currently a Lecturer in the Department of Management Studies, University of the West Indies Mona, he teaches financial statement analysis, risk and treasury management and advanced financial accounting. Mr. Campbell was co-editor of the book “An Ethical Perspective of Caribbean Businesses”, and co-authored two academic papers on The Financial Sector Crisis of 1987.  He has other academic publications.  In addition to these accomplishments, he has served as an accounting expert in settling a commercial dispute involving an international company and has served as an expert accounting witness 

Mr. Campbell previously worked in auditing at Touche Ross Thorburn & Co. (now Deloitte), and has worked in commercial and merchant banking, as well as in the insurance industry. 

He is a regular trainer on corporate governance to the Private Sector Organization of Jamaica, Jamaica’s Ministry of Finance, and the Eastern Caribbean Stock Exchange.  He also serves as a presenter for numerous technical seminars hosted by the ICAJ. 

Mr. Campbell is the Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of Jamaica Money Market Brokers Limited, a Director of JMMB Securities Limited, and Chairman of the company’s Audit Committee.  He is a representative of the Government of Jamaica on the Sugar Negotiating Team, which has responsibility for the divestment of the sugar industry.   

He has also been a member of the Board of Directors of various corporate entities, including Mutual Security Bank (Cayman) Limited, which was his brainchild, NCB Cayman Ltd., International Hotels Ltd. (Hedonism II), Edward Gayle & Company, NCB Investments Ltd. and Jamaica Mutual Property Company Limited.  He is a member and Past Director of the Kiwanis Club of North St Andrew.   

Mr. Campbell is married to Odette, a Chartered Accountant, and they have two daughters, Brittny and Lauren .
